Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

Wyke Regis Coastguard Cottages circa 1910

A wonderful view of the houses built in 1886 to house the Coastgaurd, the first Coastguard house to be built, in the mid 1840s, was that which has the Flag in the garden.

I heard recently that originally the Coastguard were not allowed to be recruited from the community in which they were located nor were they allowed to live within that commumity.

The original Coastguard clifftop patrol paths were to form the route of the South West Coastal path.
