Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

The Wooden Pier circa 1938
It is High Water as indicated by the sea level to the left of the picture.

In the centre can be seen the shelters which also provided an ideal viewing platform on the roof for those who wished to observe the harbourside activity.

Beyond the fence is the railway or tramway which ran through the town and terminated here.

Passengers would disembark on to a platform and were immediately alongside their ship.

In the distance can just be seen the funnel of a paddle steamer, these vessels would also use the steps visible at the end of the pier.
