Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

The Stag Inn
The Stag Inn was located at the junction of Walpole Street ( to the left) and Lennox Street ( to the right).
The two gents in the background are standing outside, what in my time, was Croads Newsagents. Kevin Gill, an old school friend writes to remind me that after WW2 the adjacent workshop was owned by Michael Dunne who lived in 59 Walpole St. which is the first house after the Stag Inn on the left and connected from the rear to the workshop.
This cross road was the 'Shopping Centre' for this densely housed area as I grew up. The photographer is standing on the pavement outside Billy Brantingham's General Store, to his left was the Off Licence ( where Kevin Gill's Aunt was owner) and to his right was Bonds the Bakers. Behind and to his left was the Fruit & Veg shop owned by Mr. Cheeseman his neighbour was a Drapers later a Gents Hairdresser. This view probably dates from about 1910 or before.
