Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

Sister Julianna of the Convent of The Sacred Heart

I have had one or two contacts concerning the Convent of the Sacred Heart. The Convent and School was part of a French Order of Nuns.

There was always a nun in the chapel maintaining a constant vigil.

This is a picture of Sister Julianna and was sent to me by her niece Anne and I am grateful for permission to publish..

Sister Julianna was born in Scotland in August 1910 the youngest of 13 children.

She joined the Convent in 1934 and was in Belgium and France during the 2nd World War.

She returned to England after the war and was at another Convent eventually moving back to Weymouth.

She is wearing the habit that all the nuns wore.

Sister Julianna died in October 1973 and is buried in Melcombe Regis Cemetery
