This parade took place in May 1914 when Admiral Beresford was granted the Freedom of the Borough. As Commander in Chief of the Channel Fleet the Admiral had served at Portland for the years 1907 to 1909 The writer is obviously in the picture as he writes to a lady in Portsmouth asking is there any body she recognises! The photographer is Edwin Seward and I believe he is using a window in what was W.H. Smiths shop. |
