Weymouth In Old Postcards and Photographs

Old Friends
A photo of, David Coombes, my best friend in those far off days when summers were always sunny and life seemed to stretch ahead . Probably taken around the late 1950s

Just the one car in the distance which as I recall belonged to one of the two gentlemen who operated the tea warehouse just out of the picture. They were always smartly suited and were never without their trilby hats.

The building behind the car was the Walls Ice Cream warehouse and the kerbside was often filled with the dry ice used in the 'StopMe and Buy One' Cycles.

This was also the location of the Doughnut Factory for the Americans during the War.
In an article written for The Dorset Year Book the late Lenny Burt recalled the Christmas of 1943. The Americans received frozen chickens but had no means of cooking the poultry, so they approached locals with an offer of cook two and keep one. There were very few refusals I imagine!!!

Three young gentleman out for a Sunday lunchtime stroll.
Tony Hamilton on the left, yours truly and Michael Charles on the right. The dog is 'Prince' a 'well adjusted' alsation.
Michael Charles and his parents emigrated to Tasmania about 1962/63. Mike was called up for the Australian Army and was sent to Vietnam. Sadly he was killed in January 1968. His memorial certificate can be viewed here
