Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

The Kings Statue circa 1905
I have chosen this picture of George 3rd. for two reasons, the unusual camera angle and because it is a view with which I am familiar, having been taken from a window in the former W.H. Smith store where I worked on leaving school.
The card is one of a series published under the Kingsway brand by W.H. Smith.
King George did more than anyone to introduce his people to the Seaside Holiday Little wonder then that the good burgesses were anxious to commemorate his patronage.
Not a car or bus in sight with this view taken at the turn of the century allowing the true Georgian splendour of many of the buildings to be seen
and fully appreciated.
