Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

The Kings Statue circa 1960

In this view from from the 1960s King George has received a lick of paint and he overlooks a much different prospect from that of the view in 1900.
People, buses, vans, coaches spill around his memorial all intent on enjoying the summer sunshine.
A fine collection of Morris Minors, Ford Anglias & Hillmans jostle with the first 'charas' of the day.
Perhaps the Policeman has just finished a spell on Point Duty at the junction of Westham Road, St. Thomas' Street and the Esplanade.
I recall one particular P.C. whose presence on point duty was always lively given his rather theatrical demonstrations of the art of traffic control!!

Contrast this view with the view from 1905.
