No collection of Weymouth views would be complete without the Jubilee Clock, erected to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

The Town Council organised the Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday June 21st. 1887 financed from the Jubilee funds. It was then agreed that the balance of the fund after these events should be used to provide a permanent memorial.

Later that year it was decided to erect an accurate public clock on the Esplanade to meet a long felt need.

Sir Henry Edwards, the town's MP for a number of years, gave the clock with its illuminated dial for the tower. The Victorian splendour of the clock and tower is emphasized by the original position on the sands.

It stands today on exactly the same spot, the Esplanade having been extended in front of it during the 1920s to prevent the shingle encroaching on to the sands.
