In
this view from 1911 we can see some of the decorations erected to celebrate
the Coronation Of George 5th.
The elaborate arch would have taken many weeks to plan and erect, The model of the vessel from the Weymouth coat of arms is a great touch. Strung along the Prom and from the shelter roof are the predecessors of todays illuminations, a small glass lantern which would have held a candle, it would appear that these were lowered, flaglike, down the pole for lighting. Quite an undertaking given the length of the seafront. |
