Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

The Crowded Sands circa 1960
This is how I remember Weymouth in the 1950s & early '60s.

Crowded beach and sands, the Beach Stalls all doing a good trade, the smell of candy floss, ice cream, hot dogs and burgers.
The noise from all those people is also something that lingers, the excited shouts of children splashing about in the shallows, the hum from all the conversation.
This particular area from the Jubilee Clock to just beyond the Punch & Judy Show was always the first area to become crowded as folk arrived from the Westham Coach Park or the Railway Station.
Then around 5 pm the Day Trippers would leave and those in the Hotels, Guest Houses and B. & B.s would head for their evening meal. 7 pm would see the latter heading out for their evening strolls, visits to Theatres, Amusement Arcades or Pub!!
