Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

Boys Brigade Church Parade

The Bristol Boys Brigade held an Annual Camp in Weymouth.

Arriving in Weymouth by train on a Friday evening they would form up in the Station Yard and led by their band would march up King Street and along the Esplanade and Preston Road to their camp at Osmington.

I recently discussed these camps with a former Bristol B.B. member, he recalls them clearly. He told me that they actually owned the field they camped on. A farmer was allowed the use of the field for the remaining 50 weeks of the year. The field was eventually sold for £1200 on the advice of one B.B. Officer. A decision much regretted since I understand.

This picture of the Sunday Evening Church Parade was taken by Chambers and the number 3235 is the reference you quoted if ordering a copy from the display outside their kiosk, usually the following morning.
