Weymouth in old postcards and photographs

The Esplanade C. 1950s

Those, not so, far off days in the late 1950s and early 1960s before the motor car dominated every street scene.

The RAC, or perhaps AA, patrolman awaits an opportunity to enrol a new member. I think they still saluted passing members at that time.
I can remember the other gentleman in the white cap, he supervised the parking spaces.
To the left of the picture, by the signpost, is another white capped gent. He is touting customers for the Motor Boat trips around Portland Harbour which ran from the pontoons alongside the Pier Bandstand.
In the distance can be seen their competitor from Cosens.
