Welcome I consider myself fortunate to have spent the first twenty years of my life in Weymouth. One of the most attractive and popular seaside resorts in England. A Town with a long and fascinating history, surrounded by a magnificent coastline, the latter now recognised internationally as ‘The Jurassic Coast’. Postcards were everywhere, hanging in racks or spinners, rare was the business which did not offer a selection. Views of every location or place of interest and the comic postcards with their red faced characters and suggestive innuendo. The first cards in my collection were purchased some twenty years ago and the fascination remains undimmed. I am not sure if Weymouth was unique amongst seaside resorts but it has certainly supported a formidable number of talented and enthusiastic photographers. Through their efforts the changing scene and events, national and local, were recorded from the early days of the albumen print through glass negatives to film. A visit to any Postcard or Antiques Fair, Auction House or website will almost certainly have a number of Weymouth cards on offer. When the cards produced by the larger card publishers is included the the number of cards produced for Weymouth alone must be a staggering figure.
